Anatomy and physiology education is vital for effective eating disorder treatment, particularly in an outpatient eating disorder setting. I integrate this approach into eating disorder therapy, helping clients in New York and virtually recognize the body as an incredible precision instrument and understand its sensory cues. By exploring how muscles, bones, and organs function together, clients learn to appreciate the intricate ways their body operates, empowering them to accurately interpret signals like hunger, fullness, and emotional triggers. This holistic education shifts the focus from battling or controlling the body to trusting it as a highly capable system designed for balance and health.
Understanding the body’s signals helps prevent the escalation into unhealthy coping mechanisms, such as bingeing or restrictive eating. Clients learn to respond to their needs in real time, fostering healthier choices in food and self-care. This holistic approach transforms recovery, empowering clients to choose clarity, care, and lasting well-being over disordered behaviors.
Sensory modulation and a holistic approach are central to my eating disorder treatment program, specifically tailored for outpatient eating disorder recovery. This approach addresses the constant hyperarousal often experienced in eating disorder therapy, where sensory overload—amplified by both external and internal stimuli—intensifies anxiety, making food and body control seem like the only tangible solutions.
By helping clients identify and reduce sensory stressors, whether it's the discomfort of tight clothing, loud noises, or the emotional impact of social media, we create space for their nervous system to calm down. This shift helps the brain move from chaos to balance, laying a strong foundation for healing.
Incorporating a holistic approach enhances outcomes by acknowledging the connection between body, mind, and environment. My program teaches individuals how their body communicates its needs and how addressing sensory triggers can restore harmony. Whether it's adjusting posture, creating a soothing environment, or establishing a consistent sleep routine, these strategies empower clients to regain control over their physical and emotional well-being. The result is not just recovery from disordered eating but the creation of a balanced, resilient life that is both nurturing and sustainable.
Personal discovery and self-appreciation are essential elements of Amelia Lindberg's outpatient eating disorder treatment, helping individuals build a healthy relationship with food and body during eating disorder recovery. In eating disorder therapy, understanding who you are—what you enjoy, value, and how you want to live—enables you to align your actions with your authentic self. This alignment fosters inner peace and empowerment, naturally leading to healthier choices around food and body care.
In the recovery process, discovering your true self helps break free from patterns of people-pleasing and the pursuit of external validation, which often drive disordered eating behaviors. Cultivating self-appreciation allows you to make choices that prioritize your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. You begin to see your body not as something to control or judge but as a unique and beautiful part of who you are, deserving of love and respect. This journey toward self-discovery is liberating, creating a life filled with joy, authenticity, and balance.
Confidence and attractiveness are essential components in developing a healthy relationship with food and body during eating disorder treatment. Feeling attractive isn't about fitting into a particular mold but about embracing your unique beauty and discovering what makes you feel good. My program focuses on helping individuals feel empowered throughout their healing journey, encouraging them to celebrate their bodies as they are now. By teaching clients to nurture their confidence through small, actionable steps—like wearing clothes that make them feel good or practicing positive self-talk—we shift the focus from societal expectations to personal empowerment. When you feel good in your own skin, you're more likely to make choices that support your overall well-being.
What sets my program apart is the emphasis on feeling attractive and confident durin the recovery process, not just after. I guide clients to find their "smokin' hot" size—the size where they feel energetic, healthy, and fully engaged in life. This approach helps clients stop comparing themselves to others and instead focus on what makes them feel their best. As confidence builds, it becomes easier to embrace self-care and make healthier choices, leading to a stronger, more positive relationship with food and body that lasts well beyond recovery. My outpatient eating disorder therapy goes beyond talk therapy and adds the missing component of physical therapy for improved recovery outcomes.
Yes! All the time! Here are some key areas:
My skills as a Physical Therapist, my extensive study of eating disorder recovery, and my personal experience make me uniquely qualified to address both the physical and emotional aspects of my client's eating disorder recovery journey.
I provide the crucial element missing from traditional eating disorder recovery: sensory modulation and movement-based therapy. My innovative techniques improve recovery outcomes and reduce the risk of relapse by helping clients reconnect with their bodies in a safe, empowering way.
Hi, I’m Amelia Lindberg, a recovered bulimic, and founder of Body Fluent Wellness. With over 25 years of experience, I’ve helped countless individuals achieve eating disorder recovery by reconnecting with their bodies and choosing health. Together, we’ll create a plan for sustainable recovery that fits your unique journey.
My experience with bulimia is what drives me to help others break free from disordered eating. I remember being 8 years old, hiding to eat granola bars at family gatherings because I felt ashamed for feeling hungry. That early confusion around food and my body became a way for me to cope with tough emotions like fear and loneliness. Trying to control what felt uncontrollable led me into a 15-year cycle of food and body struggles.
Now, I’m passionate about helping others avoid that pain. I created the program I wish I had during my own eating disorder recovery, one that addresses the physical side of eating disorders as well as the mental side.
In my practice, I combine physical therapy, myofascial release, and holistic techniques to offer a unique approach to healing. Having been through it myself, I deeply understand what people are going through. I use that insight to help others rebuild a healthy, loving relationship with their bodies and feel empowered in their recovery.
Driven by my belief in the healing power of movement and alignment, I pursued a career in Physical Therapy. I began with an in-depth study of myofascial release, which focuses on releasing tension in the body’s connective tissues. This method improves alignment and enhances neurological, digestive, and respiratory function. I also became a Certified Lymphedema Therapist to better support immune and circulatory health.
My passion for whole-person wellness led me to open Body Fluent in 2020. I introduced a new dimension to eating disorder recovery by focusing on the physical components of eating disorder recovery as well as sensory overwhelm in disordered eating.
My program uses sensory modulation techniques and client-led recovery planning to enhance emotional regulation, body image, and reduce disordered behaviors.
Due to demand, I developed an online version at Eating Disorder Help Now, which has expanded my reach to help more people recover effectively.
My mission is to help people recover a healthy relationship with food and their bodies so they can live fully engaged lives—physically, mentally, and socially.
I believe that when individuals reconnect with their bodies, they unlock the freedom to use their energy and brainpower to achieve their true goals, rather than staying stuck in the cycle of food and body obsession.
My approach is designed to empower clients to feel attractive and confident in their bodies while creating a strong foundation of health and well-being during their eating disorder recovery.
Ultimately, my goal is to empower each individual to become fluent in their own body’s needs and signals in order to be proactive in their eating disorder treatment. Through this holistic, self-empowering approach, I teach clients how to maintain their physical health so they can focus on what really matters—pursuing their passions, building meaningful relationships, and living vibrant lives where they feel attractive, capable, and confident in their own skin.
